If you own an old building downtown, there is a high risk of lead paint and/or asbestos contamination. Ravenswood is now applying for a community wide assessment grant through the EPA that includes a lead paint/asbestos assessment for our building owners to participate in. If awarded, your property will be given first consideration for lead paint and asbestos assessment.
This assessment is a critical first step if you want to do something with your property but don’t know what. Even if you want to sell it in the future, an assessment is highly beneficial for showing potential buyers.
If the buyers need financing, the banks want to see that an assessment (aka Phase 1) has been done.
This grant does not require a dollar limit or matching funds, so there will be no owner out-of-pocket expense for the assessment. The application will be completed by a professional grant writer. All that is needed is information about the building and permission from the owner to include it in the community-wide assessment grant.
Participation in this grant is time-limited, so please get in touch with Molly Washburn, Program Director for Downtown Ravenswood Partners, as soon as possible. She needs your responses by October 31.
